Muskoka Multicultural Association Brings Community Together Through International Cuisine

Bracebridge, ON – May 5, 2025 – The Muskoka Multicultural Association (MMA), a project of the Rotary Impact Club supported by the District of Muskoka and sponsored by Stevens’ Your Independent Grocers (YIG) in Bracebridge, successfully hosted a vibrant Indian cooking class on Sunday, May 4, 2025.

Under the expert guidance of Chef Poonam Singh, owner of the Essence of Spice restaurant in Gravenhurst, and her daughter Akansha Singh, proprietor of Nirvah Beauty: Ayurvedic Spa & Skincare, over 30 enthusiastic participants gathered to learn how to create a traditional Indian meal and dessert. The popular class, held at Stevens’ YIGs in Bracebridge, also had a substantial waitlist, reflecting the community’s strong interest in exploring diverse culinary traditions.

This engaging culinary event follows the MMA’s highly successful Eastern European cooking class held in February, which taught attendees how to make authentic cabbage rolls and perogies. Continuing this flavorful journey around the globe, the next culinary experience will be a lively Mexican Fiesta cooking class, scheduled to take place at Stevens’ YIGs on Sunday, May 25th.

To complement the Mexican-themed class, MMA invites community members to join a Cinco de Mayo social at El Pueblito’s restaurant in Bracebridge at 4:30 pm on Tuesday, May 6th, for an informal gathering filled with food, fun, and fellowship.
